Keywords And Marketing Your Website
In an earlier post I mentioned Keywords and the fact that Search Engine Optimization is not only about Keywords. While this is true, Keywords play a very important role in Search Engine Results as that is what the user mulls over as they begin their search. What Keyword or Phrase will provide me with the best result. Well, with that as the question for the user, it should be the site owners first question as well.
Brainstorm all the relevant keywords and phrases that you feel your potential clients/customers will use in searching for a business like yours. Select what you feel are the best twenty from the list and test the results through some trial and error to first determine which sites come up in the top 30 and what relavancy for the keyword usage they have. Look at these as your potential competitors for those keywords. The Search Engine has included them here for a variety of reasons which could include any or all of the following:
- They have a significant number of popular sites linking to them.
- The Keywords used in the search appear throughout the site in an appropriate ratio to the all of the text in the site. In other words, not too much or too little as compared to the other sites in the listing.
- The content of the site is updated with new, fresh, relevant content periodically. The site is not stale.
These are just a few of the important items that the Search Engines review as it determines what to return in a search request. Keywords play an important role, so knowing what your competitors are using and how can assist you in your placement in the search results. Seek out a qualified SEO specialist to assist you with the entire process so your site will not fall short of your expectations. Here is an article that does a decent job covering Keywords: The Anti-Zen Of Keyword Analysis by Jason Lee Miller.
